The jagged crest of the Continental Divide splits Glacier National Park into two different climatic regions. In the west, there is heavy precipitation and moderate temperatures. On the east side, the precipitation is about the same, but there are high winds, which creates a drier climate. Summers are brief and cool, and winters are mild and snowy. The average rainfall is about 29 inches and the average snowfall is about 157 inches.
